Giving FAQs
The Housing Development Alliance (HDA) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to developing and preserving affordable housing in Appalachian Eastern Kentucky. We rely on charitable contributions to do this work responsibly and for the long term.
This page answers common questions about giving to HDA. If you have a question about a specific donation, please contact our Director of Development & Communications at mindy@hdahome.org or 606-436-0497, ext. 2028.
HDA builds and repairs homes that are designed to last – for the families who live in them and for the community around them.
In Eastern Kentucky, many working families live in housing that is unsafe, overcrowded, or deteriorating faster than they can afford to repair it. Our work focuses on long-term solutions: building high-quality homes, strengthening existing ones, and helping families remain stably housed for decades – not just years.
When you give to HDA, you’re investing in housing that supports generational stability, workforce retention, and a resilient Appalachian community.
HDA operates with a strong commitment to fiscal stewardship and program effectiveness. Over 86% of our annual expenses support housing programs and services, with the remainder dedicated to essential administration and fundraising.
We prioritize unrestricted giving whenever possible, because it allows us to respond to the most urgent housing needs and plan responsibly for the future.
