Your Impact

How We Use Your Gift

Donations to the Housing Development Alliance support the long-term development, repair, and stewardship of affordable housing in Appalachian Eastern Kentucky. Gifts are used according to clear priorities that allow us to plan responsibly, respond effectively, and deliver housing that is built to last.

Our focus is not short-term fixes, but durable homes and a stable community – work that requires consistency, skilled labor, and sustained investment.

What Your Support Makes Possible

HDA has been developing, building, and preserving affordable housing in Eastern Kentucky for more than 30 years. With the support of donors, funders, and partners, we have developed the capacity to deliver housing at scale while maintaining quality and affordability.

Our impact includes:

  • Over 400 new homes built and sold to income-qualified families

  • More than 1,100 homes repaired, allowing homeowners to remain safely housed

  • An average of 40-50 new homes built and 45-60 homes repaired each year

  • Housing and recovery support provided to flood survivors following the 2022 & 2025 disasters

  • Service to over 3,000 individuals across four Eastern Kentucky counties

These outcomes reflect long-term organizational capacity – not one-time efforts.

How Donor Dollars Are Used

Donations to HDA support the full scope of work required to deliver high-quality, affordable housing responsibly and over time. This includes:

  • Building and repairing homes that meet durability and energy-efficiency standards

  • Planning, materials, and skilled labor needed to complete projects safely and effectively

  • Workforce training and development, including paid, on-the-job construction training

  • Organizational capacity that ensures compliance, accountability, and long-term stewardship

Unrestricted gifts are especially valuable because they allow us to direct resources where they are most needed and to plan beyond a single project or funding cycle.

Built for Efficiency and Affordability

HDA is the only ENERGY STAR–certified homebuilder in our service area. This commitment to energy efficiency reduces long-term utility costs for homeowners and improves housing stability.

  • The average monthly electric bill for residential customers in the Eastern Kentucky counties we serve is approximately $196.37

  • Families living in HDA-built homes typically pay under $150 per month

Lower operating costs help ensure that homes remain affordable not just at purchase, but for decades to come.

Community-Level Impact

Beyond individual homes, HDA’s work contributes to long-term economic stability in a region designated by the USDA as experiencing persistent poverty.

Our work has:

Affordable housing is foundational infrastructure. When done well, it strengthens families, supports the workforce, and contributes to resilient local economies.

A Responsible Use of Your Gift

HDA is one of the few organizations developing affordable housing in Eastern Kentucky – and the only one doing so at this scale and level of efficiency. Every dollar is stewarded with care, transparency, and a long-term view of community impact.

Your support helps ensure that this work continues – steadily, responsibly, and with lasting results.
