Ultimate House Raising Challenge

Take on HDA’s most intense volunteer experience and help build a home in just 4–5 days for a family in need in Eastern Kentucky.

Make a Visible Impact

HDA’s Ultimate House Raising Challenge is your chance to see immediate results from your volunteer efforts. In just one week, your group will turn a foundation and stacks of lumber into a structurally sound, weatherproof home for a family in need. No construction experience is required – our expert carpenters guide every step of the process.

Who Can Participate

  • Groups (regional or local) of up to 30 volunteers
  • Churches, colleges, corporate teams, and community groups
  • All skill levels welcome – carpenters onsite will guide you
  • Dedicate one week to complete the challenge

What You'll Do

Over 4–5 workdays, your group will complete a “dry-in,” making the home structurally sound and weatherproof. Tasks include:

By the end of the week, you’ll see a tangible transformation – a home ready for a family to move in, built by your own hands.

Why It Matters

  • Each home provides safe, affordable housing for flood survivors or low-income families.

  • Your $25,000 sponsorship per home supports HDA’s limited resources and ensures volunteer groups do not pay a fee.

  • Your team will gain construction skills, teamwork experience, and a sense of accomplishment.

How to Get Started

  1. Gather your volunteer group (max 30 participants).
  2. Commit to a $25,000 sponsorship per home.
  3. Reserve your week with HDA’s Volunteer & Community Coordinator.

Additional Information

  • Need construction experience? None required. Carpentry staff will guide you through every phase.
  • After the challenge: HDA carpenters ensure all work passes inspection, and subcontractors finish plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and interior work. Once the home is complete, you’ll receive a video and photo commemorating your impact.
