Boulder Rock Run

A Trail Run for Charity

The Housing Development Alliance (HDA) has teamed up once again with Pathfinders of Perry County to host the 3rd annual Boulder Rock Run! This exciting 5K Hike/Trail Run (or Walk) and 10K Trail Run is unique to our area and will test you, but also thrill you as you make your way around the newly developed Perry County trail system.

Located in Hazard, KY’s Perry County Park, the 5K course features a variety of trails, including old service roads, wide, multi-use trails, and single, technical mountain bike trails – all of which weave their way through an ancient and beautiful forest in the Appalachian Mountains. This course winds its way up a mountain and features one steep, technical (but relatively short) climb to remind you that this isn’t your run-of-the-mill 5K! Near the halfway point, you will reach the pinnacle of the race: Boulder Rock. The trail takes you directly through this impressive rock formation. From that point on, the trail is mostly cross-slope and downhill running to the finish line.

If you’re really looking for a challenge, sign up for the 10K Trail Run! You’ll go to greater heights, climb more steep hills, and spend more time in the majestic woods. Plus, you get twice the adventure from additional trails. Due to time limitations, we do not recommend that you hike the 10K course.

Whether your wish is to train, compete, test yourself, or simply be a part of the day’s action and give back to your community, Boulder Rock Run is an opportunity to take pride in yourself and in this place. All proceeds from this event, including all donations and sponsorships, will be used to make Perry County better for all who live here – through an improved trail system that shows off the natural beauty of the area and more affordable housing for the people who live and work here.

Our goal is to raise as much money as we can for Pathfinders of Perry County and the Housing Development Alliance. In fact, now through October 31, the Perry County Community Foundation will match each donation. That means your donation will accomplish twice as much! The Housing Development Alliance is seeking to raise $5,000, which will become $10,000 to use towards building a better future for this region.

Every participant who signs up by Monday, Oct. 21st is guaranteed to receive an official event T-shirt designed by Appalachian Apparel Co.! On the day of the race, runners finishing 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in each division will receive a medal.

Our challenge to you is to sign up and give a gift to Pathfinders and/or HDA to show that you believe in the future of this county; and, at the same time, you’ll be showing the community how much you believe in yourself and each other. These are causes worthy of your participation and investment. It’s a total win-win, so what are you waiting for?

Be sure to register online! If you wait to register on the day of the event, the cost of registration is higher. So, don’t procrastinate, and show your support for this year’s Boulder Rock Run! We can’t wait to see you there.

Make a Donation!

Boulder Rock Run is a trail run for charity! All proceeds from this event support two of our area’s key nonprofits – the Housing Development Alliance and Pathfinders of Perry County. Both groups are dedicated to improving life in the mountains – whether that’s through more affordable housing or developing our wild, rugged, and breathtaking terrain for local enjoyment and tourist attractions.

And now through Oct. 31, the Perry County Community Foundation will match each dollar given! So, your gift will have twice the impact. Every donation – no matter the amount – is appreciated and will be used to make life so much better for the people of East Kentucky!

DID YOU KNOW?

The Perry County Trail System
was developed by Benjamin Braman, an
avid outdoorsman, who, in his short time
living in our area, has aided the local
community in tapping into the region’s
natural beauty. In just the last few years,
Ben and the Pathfinders of Perry County
have taken a handful of trails and
expanded them into an 8-mile web of
paths for people to enjoy. Come meet Ben
on race day and experience the hills of
East Kentucky!
